As many of you know, we’ve experienced some issues with the color part of our press. Basically two of the colors (Red and Blue) have had failures. While we were repairing the latest failure, we found what was causing the problem. While this is repairable, we are unsure how to obtain the part.
Our expert on these units is fairly certain it is something that just will not be available unless we can find a used unit that died from some other issue. It’s part of the framework of the machine, it should never wear out, and the only thing we can think of is that the machine was damaged shipping it up here. So while we ask around and try to locate one, we’ve decided to avoid more repairs and run the machine in the black-only mode. The hope is that this does extend out for more than a couple of weeks. Note: The Digital Copy online IS in color, this is an issue with the actual printing of the paper. All paper subscribers are entitled to a digital subscription, just give the subscription line a call and we can help get that set up for you.
If we have a story about you, a business, or someone you care about in the paper, we have Tear Sheets (single printings of a page out of any issue) that normally sell for $5 each available. We’re cutting the price in half while we are black and white $2.50. These are printed on heavy stock and are great for framing. Tear Sheets are printed on a different machine, so are full color.
As you may have noticed, we started the Foundation club. While we planned to obtain a 2nd digital press by the end of 2025, it is painfully obvious we need a better plan for backups. We tried reaching out to printers in the area about farming out the print, and the costs were 4-5 of what we currently pay to run our machine. That would put us further into non-compliance with the postal code and not something we can do. We understand that outside shops need to make money, however, our unique process is part of what helps keep the price reasonable.
Another hiccup that we are working on, after a security update, the software that sends out notifications for our Digital Edition is not working. While the software author is aware of the issue, they do not currently have a fix for the issue. Andy is working on some things with it, but with the press issues and the weather that finally showed up, he hasn’t had much time to work on it. We can do the process manually, however, it does take time, so notifications are a bit hit-and-miss. If you log into your account, you can always go to the Get A Copy (top menu on the website) and select Digital Copy. There you can read the current paper online, or download it.
